“Mathilde” is a Hardangerjakt built in 1884 in \u00d8lve, Hardanger, and is one of the most characteristic boat types for the region. Around the turn of the century (1900), there were approximately 2500 vessels of this type sailing along the coast of Norway. For Hardanger, the jakts were crucial as they formed the basis of income for the region through participation in the northern trade.
