Make a rope
Mini ropemakers
Everyone can make their own rope at Hardanger Maritime Centre. We have two mini ropeyards, one inside the ropeyard and one outside, where visitors can make their own rope with the help of a guide.
First, you spin the thread into three braids by turning the cranks as quickly as you can. Using a little piece of wood called ‘the top’ you join the braids together, and, as if by magic, you have your own homemade souvenir or skipping rope.
Our mini ropeyards are simple replicas of our own ropeyard where you can try your hand making rope!
